SALZBURG (25th February 2014). – Reed Exhibitions Messe Salzburg organises ‘Die Hohe Jagd & Fischerei’ - an international trade fair for hunting, fishing, adventures in nature and travel, and is traditionally one of the top events of the expo year in Salzburg. The 26th edition of the no.1 expo hunting ground in the Alps, Danube and Adriatic region – Europe’s second-largest public access hunting and fishing fair – encouraged plenty of purchasing activity, was highly informative and served as an ideal social gathering for hunters, anglers and nature lovers from the whole of Austria, as well as a large number of visitors from abroad. This year on the 20th – 23rd February an exact total of 38,974 visitors attended the ‘Hohe Jagd & Fischerei 2014’ and ‘absolut allrad’. Overall, 534 exhibitors from home and abroad came to Messezentrum Salzburg to showcase their product portfolios, and the latest trends and services from the hunting and fishing sectors; and at the ‘absolut allrad’ in hall 8 exhibitors provided a comprehensive overview of all the latest models and technical developments from the 4x4 sector.

The success of the ‘Hohe Jagd & Fischerei 2014’ and the ‘absolut allrad‘ already became clear from the immense numbers of visitors recorded on the first day of the show. The influx of visitors remained strong right through until the end of Sunday to ensure that the 26th edition of the show produced a new visitor record with an increase of 7.9% on the 2013 result. The only two years in which more visitors were registered were 2008 and 2012. This was explained by the fact that in both years the ‘Hohe Jagd & Fischerei’ played host to the World Taxidermy Championship (WTC).

International reputation underlined by strong presence of foreign visitors

‘As organisers of the event we are delighted, for the exhibitors and the trade visitors in particular, that the show was such a resounding success’, declared Director Johann Jungreithmair, CEO of Reed Exhibitions Messe Salzburg. He continued, ‘Once again, the results underlined the fact that the excellent status the Hohe Jagd & Fischerei show enjoys, and the show’s market leadership in the Danube, Alps and Adriatic region, were both verified and enhanced. 34% of the visitors at the event came from abroad, which provided further confirmation for the reputation of the show. Traditionally, the majority of foreign visitors are from the neighbouring region of Bavaria, although there were also significant numbers of visitors in Salzburg from North Rhine-Westphalia, Lower Saxony, Baden-Württemberg and other areas of Germany. We have also been welcoming numerous faithful visitors from Northern Italy for several years. At this show we were particularly impressed by the crowds from the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary and Slovenia, a trend that seems to be on the increase. The ‘Hohe Jagd & Fischerei’ is a jewel in our portfolio and the best-attended public access trade fair in Salzburg’.

Attractive programme of side events with plenty of highlights

‘An attractive, top quality programme of side events is a permanent, almost traditional feature of the ‘Hohe Jagd & Fischerei’, explained Exhibition Manager Andrea Zöchling. ‘These events contribute in no small measure to attracting hunting, fishing and nature enthusiasts to Messezentrum Salzburg from all over Austria and the surrounding countries’. One such event was held on Friday (21.02.) – The Austrian Deer Cry Championship, which served as the national qualifier for the European Championship also staged here the following day. Christian Hochleitner from Salzburg won the title of Austrian Champion. Alexander Hochleitner from Salzburg was second and Georg Helmigk from Carinthia came third. The European Championship was held in Salzburg for the first time since 2006, and was won by Tomasz Malinski (Poland) ahead of Mate Kasper (Hungary) and Miroslav Policak (Slovakia). A total of 32 competitors from 11 nations took part in the European Championship at which Austrian competitors finished 6th, 23rd and 25th.

Top events and features in the fishing sector

The biggest names in angling, including Elmar Elfers, Frank Schmidt, Andrew Hogg, Michael Komuczki, Torsten Ahrens, Benedikt Götzfried and several other expert anglers, gave demonstrations of their skills, passed on invaluable tips and tricks, and shared their experience with guests in hall 2 at the Fishing Forum. Demonstrations of casting by experts such as Sepp Fuchs, Antti Guttorm and Jupp Verstraten ensured the crowds were captivated by activities at the fly-fishing pool in hall 6, where visitors had plenty of opportunity to test equipment. In hall 2 visitors were able to watch expert fly-tyers in action, such as Brian Storup, Roberto Musuruana, Franz Xaver Ortner, Thomas Reisinger and Anton Pousar.

Expo schedule already set for 2015

The considerable success of the most recent edition of the show has provided the Exhibition Manager, Andrea Zöchling, and her expo organisation team with an excellent basis for next year’s ‘Die Hohe Jagd & Fischerei’ and ‘absolut allrad’ which will be held on Thursday, 19th – Sunday, 22nd February 2015 at Messezentrum Salzburg.
